A3 Problem Solving and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Development Course
Description
In a Lean organization, Six Sigma Yellow belts are a natural fit to drive A3 Problem Solving thinking into the entire organization because they have a higher level of knowledge and skills in problem solving, can be developed quickly, and are typically in organizational positions responsible for groups of associates. A Six Sigma Yellow Belt (SSYB) is someone who typically has a basic knowledge of Six Sigma but does not lead large projects on their own. A Yellow Belt typically supports six sigma projects by collecting data and by doing basic data analysis that is project specific to their own specific statistical knowledge and capabilities.
Definitions
Six Sigma - a disciplined data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in any manufacturing process, transactional process, or from product to service process. To achieve Six Sigma, a process must not produce more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities.
A3 Problem Solving- The A3 report is so named because it is written on an A3 sized paper (metric equivalent of 11” x 17”). The report flows from top to bottom on the left-hand side, then top to bottom on the right-hand side. Every report starts with a descriptive title. The A3 Problem Solving report format is significant for several reasons. First, it is a document that tells the story of the issue, observation, or problem. Second, it serves as a common way of thinking about problems or issues in the organization. Finally, the problem solving steps involved in D-M-A-I-C (Define,Measure,Analyize,Improve,Contol) and PDCA (Plan,Do,Check, Adjust) are all interrelated and represented on one document.
