Jim Torrey

Jim Torrey is an associate of TranSystems|The Access Group with over 30 years of manufacturing management experience with TRW Automotive a global supplier. Jim held several key positions which included, manufacturing engineering manager, facilities manager, industrial engineering manager, environmental manager, maintenance manager and tool-room manager.

Jim has a very strong background in a variety of manufacturing process technologies, including, cold-forming, hot forging, various machining operations and both automated and manual assembly. Jim has many years of experience in managing and directing process development, process planning, capital procurement, manufacturing cost estimating and new product launches. In addition, he has held positions of responsibility for manufacturing maintenance operations, buildings and grounds. He has lead the implementation and certification (QS/TS) of production engineering functions, as well as maintenance management systems. Jim is an experienced project manager in all facets of manufacturing operations, particularly in the acquisition, installation and start-up of capital equipment. He has several years of experience in Lean Manufacturing. Over the years he has mentored and facilitated the professional development of many young engineers.

Jim is a graduate of the University of Michigan Engineering School with BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering. He has been awarded a patent and TRW innovation award for a new product and process design. Jim has completed many advanced training programs, which include six-sigma green belt certification, PFMEA/DFMEA, design of experiments, lean production, SPC, capital procurement, as well as environmental regulations. Jim is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
